Now we were Juniors and thought ourselves rather advanced in our education. But we were kept on track by Mrs. Geneva Helm, who had been our home room teacher since 7th Grade.

Our core subjects that year were

  • English III (Mrs. Ruth Carpenter)
  • Plane Geometry (Miss Ruth Mobley)
  • U. S. History (Mrs. Helen Carpenter)

We could also select one of the following as a junior elective course:

  • Typing I (Mrs. Geneva Helm)
  • Manual Arts (Mr. Chuck Lynch)
  • Home Economics (Mrs. Clyde Raymer)

IIn addition to our classes we were still engaged in extracurricular activities such as football or basketball, band or chorus, or organizations such as the National Honor Society, the Future Homemakers of America, and Allied Youth.

Our junior class also presented a play, "Maudie and the Opposite Sex," on November 16, 1956. A copy of the program is included below. The play was directed by Mr. Tom Newberry, with considerable assistance from Mrs. Alene Felts in stage scenery paintings and construction.
