devils paintbrush (orange hawkweed)

(Hieracium aurantiacum, family ASTERACEAE); June 23, 2003, 12:28, on Bunker Hill Road, just north of Milliken Island Rd., Canon PowerShot G3, 1/250 sec, f4, 29 mm focal length; set to macro function for closeup. The name hawkweed comes from a folk belief that hawks improved their vision by eating this weed.
